I’ve been training in Muay Thai for years. It’s a huge part of my life, something I look forward to, something that keeps me grounded. But over time, my shoulder pain kept getting worse.
At first, I did what most people do. I pushed through it. I told myself it would get better, but the more I pushed, the worse it got, until I had to stop completely. I went four months without Muay Thai.
And it wasn’t just training. I’m on my feet all day for work, and even that started to feel harder. Standing for long periods, moving around, it all felt off. That's when I knew I wasn't going to heal myself. I needed help, and thats when I went to Athletic Advtange Physiotherapy for rehab.
After my assessment, I learned that my shoulder was also affecting my posture. I was moving differently, holding tension, avoiding certain positions, and it was all adding up. My body had started to compensate.
Through physiotherapy, I wasn’t just given random exercises. I was put on a structured plan that focused on how my whole body was moving, not just my shoulder.We worked through movement patterns, strength, and control. Everything was tailored. I knew I couldn’t ignore it. Rehab wasn’t just about resting or waiting for it to calm down. It was structured. We focused on loading the tendon properly, building strength through my quads and hips, and improving how I absorbed force when landing and changing direction. Every session had a purpose. We worked through progressive exercises, controlled movement, and gradually getting me back into basketball-specific demands—jumping, cutting, and game-speed movement. It wasn’t quick, but it was effective.
After rehab, I was able to get back on track—and I was drafted to the Vancouver Bandits.
